Holy Drek: 1,000+ Plays

On August 23, 2017, a bunch of nerdy friends and I gathered together to play Shadowrun. Don’t know what we drank that night, but something magical happened.

In November 2017 we decided to launch an experiment: what if we shared our recorded game sessions with friends and family in the form of a podcast? Would they be entertained? Would they subscribe and want to listen to more episodes?

Disappointingly, I think out of all our friends and family, maybe only a handful of them found the episodes worthy of their time (and we LOVE those people SO MUCH). That’s because most of our friends have never heard of tabletop RPGs and think anything remotely like Dungeons & Dragons is a bit too weird. Yeah, we know, we live in a bubble. Or maybe we need to get out more.

But then something amazing happened. Listeners from around the world: Canada, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, France and throughout the United States of America – gave us a try. Their five-star ratings and social shares gave our podcast a popularity we never anticipated.

After our 6th episode, we are excited to share that the Drek Happens podcast exceeded 1,000 plays. And none of this would have been possible without new friends we have never met who are going out of their way to let us know they enjoy our adventures. And for that, we are truly touched and encouraged to deliver more. And perhaps someday soon, with a more frequent cadence.

Thank you, chummers! This is just the beginning.
